Insta-movin'.

Just thought I would share some of my insta-moments with ya'll :-)

I finally got around to putting up a hummingbird feeder. I did see one bird checking it out the other day but that's been it for the sights so far.

I also put out my garden gnome the other day in hopes that it'll bring a bit-o-luck to the new veggie garden - fingers crossed that stuff actually grows!

I attempted to grill pizza twice in 3 days - the first attempt was a total fail but I nailed it the second time! What worked best for me is to roll out that dough as thin as possible.

Gosh I love lilacs from the yard!

Currently.

Watching: GoT. The end. Enough said. If you are not watching Game of Thrones, we can't be friends.

Loving: The blip of good weather we had over the weekend. We threw our first BBQ of the season with great success although I suspect we'll be eating chips and hot dogs for the next two weeks. Hey, as long as there is cream cheese involved, I'm a-ok!

Listening to: This sounds way cheesy, but the birds. We've got a ton of feathered friends in the neighborhood and it's kinda fun to sit outside and hear them chip at each other. That and the planes and helicopters flying overhead :-/

Doing: Taking hella naps. We've had a few mid-week days off for the holidays and I've been using every opportunity to sleep and sleep often. I've got a big few weeks ahead of me so the more rest I get now, the better shape I'll be in on May 8.

Reading: GoT book 4 AGAIN. I like to have it fresh in my mind whilst watching the show :-)

Eating: Chicken Tostado Salads from Taco Time. I have a big ole crush on Taco Time. It's my go to "fast food" though I don't think it should be in the same category as say, McDonald's or Arby's. TT is oh so fresh!

Thinking about: How to "marry" our finances once we're actually married. We've always kept our monies separate - owning your own biz is way complicated and I didn't want to get myself involved in that. But then I realize that we will have to file our taxes together next year and I'm totally starting to freaking out about ALL of our finances. I suspect we'll need to hire an accountant, which I've never had to do, for our 2014 taxes. Man, this marriage thing isn't just a quick trip down the aisle…..

Naming rights.

Just a lil arts and crafts going on in my kitchen this evening! I failed to label my starter seeds well so I'm  going to be sure I at least get them right in the actual garden! #PNWgardeningproblems

Spring.

Gosh, it's pretty around here in the springtime. Even with work crazy busy, I still try and get out for a few minutes every day to walk around the block, take in some fresh air and find views such as this!

Seeds of change

Well if this darn rain just doesn't stop, I'm never going to get my dream garden started! It's been a soggy month here in the PNW and my garden is a mud pit still. I'm scanning the weekly temperatures hoping for those rays of sunshine :-/

To get into the gardening spirit, without having to go outside, I've planted a few starter seeds in two mini greenhouses. I thought I would do a bit-o-experimenting - I used eggshells (thank you Pinterest) in one tray and these premade coconut husk disks in the other. Seeds include broccoli, cauliflower and kale. The best sunlight in our house is in our living room, so I've rigging up some temporary shelving next to the big window so these babies get some good sunlight.

Um yeah, about that....after a few days, I noticed a total funk in our house and it smelled, wait for it, like rotten eggs! Those darn egg shells stanked up my house! I can't sit on my couch without smelling them. Fellow gardeners, if you are going to use egg shells to start your seeds, make sure you do it outside... in a green house...that's well ventilated. And not only did they smell, the seeds did not sprout in a good 40% of them while my coconut disks has a 90% sprout rate (is that even a thing?)

So lesson learned: eggshells DO NOT make for stellar seed sprouting containers.
